Landing Craft Tank

Catching an earlier ferry than booked gained us an extra 40 minutes back on the mainland so we went to see LCT 7074, the last remaining landing craft of 800 that played a part in the D-Day landings. It is displayed on Clarence  Esplanade in Southsea, under a protective roof by the side of the road and available for photos from there.

However, to go onboard for a  detailed visit required a payment of £12.95 (for us pensioners), which covered a whole D-Day exhibition in the museum and we didn't have time for all that.

Instead, we nipped down for a quick look at close-by Southsea Castle, built for Henry VIII in 1544 in defence against a feared French invasion, before heading off to our accommodation on Hayling Island.

Today's extra is the charming little ford that we crossed for access to our last residence, with a spring draining in from the property next door
