The delightful sound of a yellowhammer's song
I went for a short walk after visiting the farm shop near to The Sydenham's and the head of the Slad valley.
The footpath was mostly devoid of birds, which was unusual there. I returned to the car and stood taking in the views towards the Forest of Dean with a gentle breeze moving clouds swiftly across the blue sky.
I saw this yellowhammer fly across the field and land on an electricity power line, so I moved towards it with my camera. At first the cloud kept it in shadow but then the sun shone and illuminated it as it sang its song for me. Occasionally it looked down but it wasn't bothered by my presence. To be honest I'm sure it was singing to attract a mate, rather than me, but at least I could enjoy it as well.
