Heat Wave, Day Two
This will be the worse day of the three. I will be staying inside so this is a view of a bit of the garden I can photograph from the porch. The Catmint is doing beautifully, and the Daylilies are beginning to put on their annual show. The Evening Primrose is filling the garden with their sunny yellow and the white clover is flourishing. None of them worry about the heat or dry conditions. I only plant heat and drought tolerant plants. No fussbudgets in my garden! Gramma loved that word. It came into general use in the late 1800's but began to be generally associated with Lucy in the Charlie Brown comic strips. A favorite word of mine in the same vein is "persnickety". Dating from the early 1800's, it is a variant of pernickety, a Scottish English word meaning overly fussy. So, therein lies the etymological lesson of the day. Stay cool and drink lots of water!
