MonoMonday: Something you Treasure

I thought this would do nicely for Pinkhairedlady's MM challenge this week. This watch was a 21st birthday present from my parents (although I chose what I wanted!) - which makes it...well, shall we say 50 years old? I wore it for many years until it finally conked out and would have been tricky to get it repaired.

If you look closely you'll see that it doesn't have a conventional movement nor a quartz one. It fitted into that gap between the main eras of the two: it relies on a tiny tuning fork inside which vibrates at exactly 300 Hz. The first such watch was the Bulova Accutron but as you'll see it's actually an Omega. It was more accurate than most conventional watches but less so than quartz watches: as quartz ones became much cheaper than they were when this was bought the market for tuning fork watches collapsed. But it's an interesting piece of technological history and developed more sentimental value when my parents passed away.
