Grumpy Old Man

Flower of the day!

Phew! Too hot to sit outside by 4.30 - I don’t say that every day! A cloudy start, but we sat outside for a while this morning, waiting in vain for the sun to come out.

I did some cutting back of sycamore stumps down by the roadside - I might spray them to try to prevent regrowth. Quite shady down there, but a touch midgey! I did quite a bit of weeding on the lower part of the bank too - I’ll need a ladder to get any higher! My plant of Asteranthera ovata, a lovely climber from Chile in the family Gesneriaceae, had one flower, so that’s my Blip today. It’s growing in moss on a near vertical rock, but it seems to be overwhelmed by the moss, so I’ve taken cuttings and will try it somewhere else.

After lunch I decided to walk down to buy midge repellent - we’d run out. By this time it was brilliantly sunny and I sat on a seat overlooking the bay with an ice cream - just like all the other tourists!

Back home we sat outside with our books, but it eventually got rather hot so I came in to do my Blip. Now I think I’ll go back down to do some more weeding in the shade!

Quote of the Day: ‘Not to like ice cream is to show oneself uninterested in food.’ - Joseph Epstein.
