Glen Sannox

After organising walks for the last 3 days, 2 of which were mildly challenging it was great to be able to do whatever I wanted. After wandering about Brodick for an hour or so I decided on Glen Sannox and a chance to properly explore the remains of the Barytes Mines. This involved crossing the fast flowing burn to find the poorly fenced deep mine shafts, a feat I had failed to perform a couple of years ago. It’s a fascinating place which is easy to miss, the spoil heaps were covered in flowers, and I also found some of old railway track.

Lunch beside the Sannox Burn and then onwards, by road, to North Glen Sannox for an easy walk following the North Sannox Burn to get a another view of Glen Sannox Ridge with the Castellations of Caistal Abhail.

Fish supper on the pier at Brodick and back to the Sleephuts for the last night.
