Living my dream

Fate tempted

The forecast rain overnight fell steadily and soakingly. A satisfactory 10mm, to add to the 12.5mm in the previous 24 hours. This is good rain, which is light enough to not flow straight off the dry ground, and heavy enough to gradually saturate more than just the top couple of centimetres of soil. There is more to come of the same ilk. And while I am already craving sunshine, I know this weather might just end the drought, so I'll put up with it. And smile.

Ross the farmer's ephemeral creek is steadily developing in the paddock we walk past each day. There were already some mallard, paradise shelduck and shovellers there on our way home, but by the time I got my camera out they had taken fright at the Bean-dog. You can see how terribly dry the pasture is, where the damp creek-bed isn't.

Unfortunately I believed this morning's forecast that there would be no more rain after 9am, and I hung out a load of washing. By 1 o'clock it was too late for a rescue mission, so the sheets have been on the line all afternoon getting wetter and wetter, as the extra shows. Silly me.

It has been a day for Bean being buried beneath blankets. While I have made a Canadian Farmhouse cheese.

The forecast says it will be dry tomorrow. We'll see...
