A woodpecker keeps its eyes on me

I think we have two great spotted woodpeckers feeding here every day. the amount of sunflower seeds disappearing would suggest that is the case. Woodies sit on the feeder and stuff their faces for minutes at a time.

After feeding they often fly about three yards to this stump of a rhus tree which I've left to rot in peace for some years since it died. So many birds like to use it as they assess their approaches to the feeder. I think the plethora of such perches in our quite wild garden is a reason for the large number of visitors we have. They can time their approaches to feed without the stress of competing with too many other birds in the air close up to the feeders.
