Wild Foxgloves
My neighbour D suggested a walk this morning so four of us headed up Goit Stock so there would be a bit of shelter in the woods if the forecast rain arrived. Thank fully it didn’t and it was quite warm with even a bit of brightness.
Harden Beck is well hidden when the green canopy is fully out but further up where it opens out as you approach the waterfalls we were able to enjoy seeing Grey Wagtails chasing each other.
Both return routes above Hallas Bridge tend to be very wet and muddy but we took the path through the fields which skirts the top of the woods below Bent's Lane. It wasn’t too bad and it was on this path I spotted these lovely Foxgloves. Perfect for flower Friday. We spent some time looking at the flora in the fields that hadn’t yet been mown and managed to identify the lovely pink grasses known as Yorkshire Fog. Again got home before the rain came.
After a late breakfast I went up to the Tittle Tattle tea shop which was followed by our monthly book group. No great enthusiasm for our latest book other than that it touched on the interesting history of Milner Field and Saltaire.
Next month’s book is ‘Captain Corelli’s Mandolin’, a book I read many years ago. I paid for the used copy but found my original as soon as I got home! I don’t mind and I think I will enjoy reading it again.
Happy weekend blippers.
The extra shows foxgloves I took on my walk yesterday, part of the ones growing where trees were recently felled in the St Ives estate.
