Menace

This troop of vervet monkeys appears sporadically in the compound where I live. This morning they were gadding about on the walkway between my apartment and the stairs. They are typical of urbanised and habituated wildlife in that they are not remotely fearful. They are the juvenile delinquents of the animal world.

Although I am forty times their size and weight they tried to gang up and intimidate me as I moved down the stairs. It was the first time I have been successfully cowed by a group of vervets, and I am sure they found it hilarious that I would have been emitting nervous pheromones.
