Common Whitetail Dragon

As June marches along, the numbers of dragon and damselflies are exploding.  It is a joy to walk in grassy fields or along lakes right now.  I took a short walk in one of the many fields in the nearby state park and saw a half dozen dragon species, most in the Libellula (skimmer) genus, as this one is.  They are fearsome hunters and will happily prey on smaller dragons/damsels.  Making me glad they are so relatively small - can you imagine if they were dinosaur sized?  My second fave shot of the day is a different perspective on a female Widow Skimmer - see Extra.

Pollens are very high today so I have had to reduce the length of time I am outside.  Still, I managed a good amount of time in the garden and over at the park.  Jax was at day care today, so I didn't need to worry about keeping him entertained, freeing me up to just enjoy the moments.

We watched "Out of Africa" last night - a wonderful, beautifully filmed movie.  Although the depiction of Indigenous people in the film would be handled differently today, it is still a beautiful film and worth the 2 hours and 40 minutes to watch.  It has been so many years since I first saw it that it was like seeing it for the first time.

My mom and dad are celebrating their 70th anniversary today - what a milestone!  And my bestie Peg and her husband are celebrating 20 years.  Where does the time go???  Anyway, I will be raising a glass of something non-alcoholic to toast them all tonight.
