Life through the lens...

Puffins!

What a day we have had!
Drove through torrential rain to Bempton Cliffs.
As we got nearer to the sea the sky cleared and the sun came out.
We were greeted with the sea full of white horses as the wind was so strong it was difficult to stand. Even more difficult to hold binoculars steady, and can’t believe I actually managed a few decent photos.

The sea birds were finding it difficult to land on the cliffs. Often took them two or three times to land an the ledges, especially the puffins.
You can see one trying to land in my photo.

Extra is a collage of the gannets.
It was a fabulous morning. Just a slight shower when everyone made a  dash for the visitor centre.
Despite the gale blowing it was one of the best days we have had there.

Lunch was at our favourite. The Pot Still Coffee Shop, Hunmanby. The cafe overlooking the Filey Bay whisky stills.

Then on to Filey and another breezy walk round the town and along the beach.
See collage.
Still one or two boats going to sea from Cobble Landing.
Pleased to report Filey is looking great.

Finished off the day with a visit to Rudston to see The Rudston Monolith.  (See extra) ( can you spot MrC?)
Standing 8 meters high, 2 meters wide.1 meter thick.and estimated to weigh around 26 tons.
The tallest pre- historic stone in the U.K.
The church dates from possibly 1100s .
Stone was already in situ for some 3000years before that.
The theory is that the Monolith marks a prehistoric holy place or worship centre and could explain the name  " Rudston " as the old English word for cross is ' rood' and stane means ' stone'.

What a fabulous day. Weather great even though so windy.
We will both sleep well!
