A View From The Top

After breakfast we headed first to San Giorgio’s and took the lift to the top of the bell tower which gives wonderful 360 degree views across the whole of Venice. The main blip shows the Dogana in the centre with the Giudecca canal to the left and Grand Canal to the right.

The church was hosting an exhibition of sculptures by a Belgian artist Belinder de Bruykere, many of which were intentionally disturbing like the one in extras, but certainly got you thinking.

Outside, we were amused to see the speed cops in action see extras.

From here we crossed over to visit the Doges’ Palace which is magnificently grand both architecturally and in terms of the interior artwork,  much of it done by the likes of Tintoretto and other famous artists.

The extra of the main council chamber (and there were lots of other smaller ones!) gives the general idea of the magnificence.

As part of the tour, you get to walk across The Bridge of Sighs to the prisons. Even better you get to come out again!

Finally, we found the Scala de Contirini de Bovolo, the unusual exterior spiral staircase to a pavane hidden down a back alleyway, again in extras, before a final vaporetto along the Grand Canal and back to our base.

As you will gather, I’m all behind with blips. We’ve been at Lake Garda for almost a week now. Hope to catch up a bit over the next few days and get more back blips posted.
