Mono Monday - Hobbies and House Clearing

My friends Pauline and Sheila from church came over this morning to help with some of the house clearing. After the past few days of meltdown it was wonderful to have them here. Pauline wrapped items of china in bubblewrap and put them in a box ready to take to a local auction house for valuation. We also started a new box of things for charity. Sheila took away lots of teddy bears that didn’t hold particular memories, and will be able to use them in her charity work for a local hospice. So a desk, a Welsh dresser and a hostess trolley have all now been emptied out. I contacted a charity who will come over next Monday to take them. It’s possible that the driver may reject some or all because they are unfashionable dark furniture, but at least I am trying to recycle before sending to landfill as a last resort. I will have some pine furniture to donate at some point, which should be more readily acceptable to a charity.

After lunch I went over to the Rectory to help choose the hymns for July and August, and bumped into a friend on the way home who’s thankfully out and about again having been quite unwell for the last ten days. She’s not 100% yet, but looked better than a few days ago when I dropped off some food and medication for her.

And so to one of my hobbies, the theme for today’s Mono Monday challenge hosted by Pinkhairedlady. I like to look for First Day Covers commemorating milestone moments in history. 1969 seems to have been quite a seminal year, and these three covers from my collection mark the first flight of Concorde on 3rd March, the investiture of Prince Charles as Prince of Wales at Caernarvon Castle on 1st July (also memorable for me because my elder niece was born on that very day), and the first moon landing of Apollo 11 on 20th July. What a year!
