Penguin Droppings

Just for the Record

This afternoon, I checked out the local colony of Northern Brown Argus butterflies (Aricia artaxerxes).  I found four individuals beside the path and managed to photograph two of them.  Both showed some signs of wear, one more than the other.

Last year there had been a hot dry spell that was withering the local flora.  The rockrose in particular was very dried up and small bugloss was much in evidence.
This year the rockrose is healthy and the next most common flower is the oxeye daisy.

My main is the less worn individual.  The upper and lower surfaces of the other are in the 'extras'.
