Majoring on the garden again
It is important to remember that on 23 June 2023, although the bottom part of the front garden was in quite good shape, the top part was just geraniums gone wild, plus grass, plus various tree stumps, including holly. In addition, on that date, although the lavender we had transplanted up from the Edinburgh balcony was flowering, it was not looking good at all. Very straggly. Now, it has really settled in to its new surroundings and will need clipping back once it has flowered. In fact, I didn't actually clear the upper level until after 4 July 2023, and even then it was tricky to plant much because of the tree stumps which I gradually got rid of in during July (and the last of them went when we had the fence replaced towards the end of November). The early days of the upper level can be seen on 4 August 2023, when I'd just planted out the geum which is doing very nicely this year.
Obviously the effect we are aiming at with the front garden is something like "cottage garden", and I'm pretty pleased with progress so far.
Other than admiring the garden, it was a pretty quiet day. Mr A prepped for supper with N and A, and I helped out by cooking the courgette and white bean curry which formed the main course, right at the last minute. We had a lovely time with our friends, gently catching up. Mostly, though, I idled the day away, making occasional forays outside to do bits of weeding and tidying in the garden. Not every day has to be immensely purposeful. And receiving further reports following the vacation of the quad late on Friday evening, which removed at least one source of stress from my life.
