Alms houses

These are the splendid early 1900’s Alms Houses in Long Ashton just outside Bristol.

Alms Houses history goes back to the Middle Ages. They were created to assist the poor , elderly or specific trade or occupation and often by a rich benefactor.

We are finding out where the buses that go through our ‘village’ go to by getting on the them and going to their terminus and this was the first. I think we struck lucky with this one . It had a 4 mile designated village walk finishing at a cafe …and a relevant bus stop.
