Day at a Time

I've blipped two birds with wormy breakfasts recently and now two necklaces. I'll need to sort myself out.

There is a reason for today's blip though. I mentioned yesterday that I'd been invited to the retirement do for a former colleague. This is the gift she gave me when I retired so of course I wore it to the event.

It was a really lovely occasion. The person retiring was described, accurately, as a 'force of nature'. She was one of the first people I appointed when I was initially in post and starting to build 'my' team of Associate Lecturers.  I had the task/privilege of undertaking her annual review. On one memorable occasion when we were wrapping up the meeting and I was asking the usual questions about her goals for the forthcoming year, where she saw herself going etc she said, "when are you going to retire Tweedy? I want your job.". Always good to be clear!  What a great colleague - always on the side of the student, of fairness and equity. Utterly committed to widening participation in education and in fact all aspects of society. Not afraid to ruffle feathers. Just what you want.

I really enjoyed seeing so many former colleagues and old friends. There were more hugs in a short space of time than for a good while. But I must say I didn't feel any pull to be back in a busy workplace!

Cameraman comes home today after his holiday in Northumberland . It will be good to see him and hear all about it. I have a bit of house related prep to do before his return and I must make a trip to the supermarket. Typical Friday!

Wishing you a good weekend
