Another Roman Aqueduct?

G: “Mike, what do you have to say about the Roman Aqueduct in Gubbio?”
M: “It is not a Roman Aqueduct. It is a Medieval Aqueduct, an impressive feat of engineering and construction, given the steep rocky gorge it was built in. It was all built out of the limestone of the ravine itself. And it’s still in use. This aqueduct is much more photogenic than the Spello Aqueduct, which was originally Roman and then rebuilt in Medieval times.
G: “Oh. What else can you say about Gubbio’s Medieval Aqueduct”
M: “It leads you straight to the Iridium layer, providing geologic evidence for the consensus that a Meteorite crashed into earth and caused the extinction of dinosaurs.”
G: Oh, the same iridium that according to legend contaminated the water and caused an increase of madness in Gubbio?
M: #1 show me the evidence that the level of madness or mental illness in Gubbio is higher than anywhere else. #2 Show me the evidence that the level of iridium is higher in the water than other places. #3 Show me the evidence of a relationship between iridium exposure and mental function.
G: We drank the water in Gubbio and now I have a head cold…I’m mad about that.
Recorded from a real live conversation over Aperol Spritz on our terrace with a panoramic view of the Umbrian countryside.
The featured photo shows the Medieval Aqueduct in Gubbio. We hiked along the footpath on top of the aqueduct, look closely and you can spot Mike. We continued up a mountain on the other side of the gorge, through meadows filled with wildflowers, then back down to Gubbio.
