Italian chapel

Dodging rain storms and battling the wind - all day.
Busy being tourists on South Ronaldsay and upwards.
Italian Chapel - built by Italian prisoners of war, just a Nissan hut. No ‘just’ about it - beautifully and skilfully decorated inside. A special place - and I managed to get in before the coach tours arrived.
The Gloup and cliff tops - many birds, many flowers, stunning cliffs.
Churchill Barriers and block ships - closing the gaps between the string of islands. They are now so well established that new beaches and sand dunes have built up on one side. We walked alongside the dunes where Little Terns were nesting - or the sign said, but they were keeping a very low profile. The sea looked almost tempting for a swim - almost.
