Alpine Accentor

Firstly thanks so much for the gifts for yesterday’s Little Bittern!

Today I went to check on the lift going to Diablerets Glacier for a Blipmeet with PAR1 on Friday … unbelievable quantities of snow (extra) so that is out of the question.

However, at the mid-station I did see a group of Alpine Accentors quite close and I love their subtle feather colours. I just read that they have a socially polygynandrous mating system. Females seek matings with all the males and males seek matings with all the females! DNA fingerprinting has been used to show that, within broods, there is often mixed paternity. The things you learn because of Blip!
