Living my dream

Waiting...

There was another minor car-related drama today. This time I discovered it had a flat battery when I jumped in to go to town this morning.

Typically - and very unusually - I had a full agenda of appointments and shopping, which was all carefully timed so that we would be home for a late lunch. All of that went out of the window.

However, it did end up a pretty straightforward fix. One of my neighbours was a car mechanic in a previous life. He double-checked for me that it was indeed the battery (I have very little clue when it comes to engines) then popped home for his truck and jump leads.

Within moments I was off to town, enjoying the purring moving car more than I usually do. At the garage where the car is an annual visitor G the lovely mechanic immediately checked the battery and gave it an official fail. (This was despite having a shed full of vehicles to be worked on.) He replaced it in 10 minutes flat. And after I had handed over some money I was on my way again. What service.

I spent much of the rest of the morning chasing around town catching up with people and places.

My final stop was to drop off eggs with the Blipping Macdubs, where I intended to say hello, give them a hug, their eggs and disappear home. However Mrs Macdub uttered the heavenly words "Would you like a coffee?" And I suddenly realised that it was the one thing in the world that I wanted at that precise moment.

There followed an enjoyable interlude during which we discussed the crazy state of US and UK politics. We even touched on some craziness in NZ politics. We laughed a lot. What else could we do?

The Blip shows my neighbour's dogs, Woody and Roy, waiting on my deck for their Dad to return with his truck and jump leads. Bean decided there must be Something About To Happen, so she went on lookout too.
