Steampunk Festival

We attended the Steampunk Festival over the weekend and enjoyed it immensely.  Lots of visitors came to Oamaru for the festival and the town was buzzing.  The weather was sunny and warm (yes, 22deg!), which helped with the general ambience.

The costumes worn by the great majority of participants were, to say the least, amazing.  We were a lot more restrained.

We went to the opening on Friday night, wandered around afterwards enjoying the sights, then returned to The Victoria Lounge for the monthly Newcomers’ drinks.  On Saturday morning we took part in the parade along with others from the Newcomers’ group.  It was great fun and lots of people turned out to watch and cheer us on.  Once again we wandered around afterwards soaking up the atmosphere.  We didn’t dress up on Sunday when we went to the Farmers’ Market, but probably should have.  It was very much a learning curve for us this year.

My hand is healing nicely and I haven’t needed to take any painkillers.
