No 70000, Britannia at Robertsbridge

A day observing our 50th anniversary gala rather than working at it. We went down to the Rother Valley Railway at Robertsbridge to see the action at what will be the other end of the line in due course when the missing link between Bodiam and Robertsbridge is completed in the next few years.

Robertsbridge has a main line connection, a turntable and about a mile of track towards the railhead just to the west of Bodiam.

Britannia was brought in via that link together with a Class 73 electro diesel to celebrate our golden anniversary at that end of the KESR by operating shuttles along the short section of line towards Bodiam.

What an experience, especially seeing a steam hauled train passing Robertsbridge Cricket Club as it would have done 60 years ago.

From Robertsbridge we drove to Tenterden to see the last few hours of the Gala at the other end of the line, just in time to see the Class 4 Standard and J94 leave for Rolvenden.

A good chat with Chris in California rounded off a wonderful weekend
