Summer is here

The title of this postbox topper, one of 40 on display at Guildford Cathedral, and very fitting for today's warm sunny weather.  The curator of the exhibition, which ends today, was renting locally when she was sat in the Chobham coffee shop, Basil and Blue, and her eye was drawn to the nearby unadorned postbox. So she started off the postbox topper knitting circle in Chobham although she has since moved away from the area. However, she had established her reputation and hence the invitation from the Cathedral to guest curate the exhibition which was brilliant in its inventiveness and skilled knitwork, with examples gathered together from all parts of the country. That '99' ice cream cornet looked very enticing - if only the chocolate flakes were that big!
The extra is of Bagpuss, the saggy cloth cat that featured in a BBC children's TV series in 1974. It has acquired a devoted following ever since, which was evident in the celebration of its 50th anniversary earlier this year.
