On the River Avon (Literally)

Today was our last full day in Salisbury, and I had previously discovered a new jaunt that was not available when we lived here, but has apparently been on offer for the last 10 years.  A punting trip on the River Avon.  We bussed into the city and did the beautiful walk across the water meadows to Harnham, see extra of the cathedral from the walk.  Once we arrived at the Rose and Crown Pub our flat bottomed transport was sitting moored by the riverbank with our 6th form A level exam taking punter ready to push us against the flow of the river to Elizabeth Gardens and back.  Along the way we saw a lot of wildlife as we drifted along, leaning back on comfortable cushions.  Extras of the swans with their cygnet kid, a mallard mother with goodness how many little duckling kids, and lastly a large trout hovering in place.

After an average lunch at the New Inn, the rest of the day was spent waiting (on my part) for L to browse charity shops and other venues.  I did my shopping and bought trousers and shorts in about 10 minutes, but it wasn't until 3 hours later that we wearily boarded another bus back to the campsite.  And despite spending over an hour floating on the river, and taking 2 buses, we still somehow managed to complete 12,000 steps!
