cimitière des Oubliés

we had a long drive south today and stopped off for lunch at the lovely town of Cadillac , on the Garonne river just south of Bordeaux.  Looking up what there was to see over lunch we came across a cemetery for the 'forgotten' founded just after WW1. Having seen a number of war cemeteries before we were intrigued and went to have a look. Although there are a number of casualties from WW1 buried here this was quite different with plain metal crosses, many unnamed ,rather than the familiar white ones. These were psychiatric casualties who were interned and died in the local psychiatric hospital from the 1920's onwards and mainly forgotten until recently. The site still has a rather abandoned look compared to the normal cemetery which is just next door. I was surprised to see burials there until about 2000 of patients whose families didn't want to bury them, including abandoned children.
