Ontario’s medical system comes up trumps

When I checked the phone first thing this morning, there was a rather meek reply from my doctor’s office. It went along the lines of “I’m sure we sent the requisition for the ultrasound, are you sure the hospital hasn’t made a mistake? I’ll resend the request – but don’t think this means we accept we made a mistake.” By now, I was on my second cup of coffee, so ready to face the world in a more polite way.
I simply texted back to say thank you – and that I know mistakes can happen and that technology isn’t infallible… God, I hate myself at times. All this because we now needed to get Ottawacker Jr in again to see her, as his cough and cold has been getting worse and has now moved to his chest.
Amazingly, she had an opening, so Mrs Ottawacker took him in early afternoon. She obviously didn’t trust me to be as polite in person. It transpires that he has sinusitis (which was a surprise as I didn’t know it moved to the chest) – but she also recommend we go to the hospital and get an x-ray of the elbow before they do the ultrasound. So, off went Mrs Ottawacker.
Quite incredibly, she was back within the hour. What a wonderful medical system we have in Canada – quite the envy of the western world.
It has stopped raining. It was even sunny for 15 minutes.
