Another whirlwind day

That is, a good whirlwind day.
Eben was with us for the day again, and we also had two friends visiting for lunch with their two little boys (Felix aged nearly 3 and Ted aged nearly 6).  John is a former undergraduate student of mine, and Vicky a former postgrad student of Richard's - so we were totally delighted when they married each other some years ago. We don't see them often, so it was good to catch up.
Eben soon settled into an older brother role with the two boys, and we had some good times with the drum kit - it is such a magnet for children. Felix, not quite three, proved to be really adept; he's a lad with a great sense of rhythm, and he surprised us all with some really quite measured playing. I only managed to grab the most hasty of photos, but it's a nice memory.
There were some much more chaotic times in the garden, when Eben found himself unable to resist messing around with the hose (another child-magnet). That was fine, until he handed it over to Felix.... who of course wanted only to get his brother as wet as possible, as soon as possible. It's a good thing that we have a tumble dryer and a stock of spare boys' clothes :-)
When they left, we dived into a final game of Monopoly. Eben beat both of us soundly this time.
And then Ruth, Josh and Luca were with us by 5, to pick Eben up.
