Make the most of freedom and of pleasure
What a lovely lovely day
Boy had to do a little work so after a ridiculous breakfast of croissant burger for me and Boy and. fried chicken and waffles for Himself, we left him to and and wandered a while and sat on benches dotted around the city where we grew to know each other and Spent many a happy hour
Boy met us just after lunch and we took the tram down to Leith where we pottered the streets and supped a few beers in different places
We watched the big black clouds come in and dashed back to the hotel across Waverley before the deluged started
In the evening boy was taking us for the next part of our combined birthday / retirement surprise
He booked an Uber back to Leith and we were heading Michelin star dining
I nearly died when I saw the price of the tasting menu and wondered what food could be so good that could cost so much
Now I know.
We dined on langoustine, crab, scallop, mussels, potato, pork, veal, carrot, onion, (yes carrot and onion were courses).
Eleven in all - the boys had 12. I had to have a break and watched in amusement as the Boys almost collapsed in ecstacy over the brie and Onion
Wine came with each course. How astonishing to appreciate the difference in a drink when paired with the correct food
I am at a loss as to how so much flavour could be packed into the little courses. I savoured every last crumb
The final course was a lemon meringue - white chocolate, lemon curd basil and pistachio I seriously didn't want it to end
And it didn't we were given petit fours - one a sweet Turkish delight esque square and the other a Quinnell of chocolate with praline inside
I have inadequate words to describe the tastes I experienced. It was a.beautiful experience - so lovely I did indeed shed a tear with the joy of it all
Four hours later and full to bursting wee headed back. For we had a room full of beer to finish before we left
