A Letter from the President
Margie’s only mail today was a plea for money from the “Biden Victory Fund.” Her first impulse was to throw it into the trash unopened, but then she said with a laugh, “I should open it, in case he has something meaningful to say to me.”
She read the contents aloud with some merriment and then wondered, “All these millionaires and billionaires want money from people like us. Don’t they ever have enough? This guy is better than the other one, but that’s—what’s the expression?”
“Setting a very low bar?” I suggested.
“Yeah. I don’t think Biden can win again, but I hope I’m wrong because the alternative—” her voice trailed off and then she asked, "Who is that woman standing next to him? Is that his wife?"
"That's the Vice President, Kamala Harris. She's the first woman Vice President we've ever had."
"Never heard of her," Margie mused. "But if they haven't figured out how to run for office without asking old ladies for five dollars, there's not much hope for the world, is there?"
