I was in the Big City again today. My cousin and I were on a mission which took us behind the scenes at the Scottish Parliament.

We emerged relatively unscathed but needing a quiet place to de-brief and take a few deep breaths. The Waverley Bar seemed to fit the bill.

After that we set off together in the direction of the railway and bus stations respectively. As we were passing the Jingling Geordie we felt a pang of nostalgia and popped in briefly just for old times sake.

Of course the Halfway House next door is full of memories too, and since we were running a little behind schedule anyway we felt there was nothing to be lost by visiting it too.

The joys of Fleshmarket Close...

I hope he found his way home safely. After one of these escapades he did get on the wrong train and woke up in Carlisle instead of Glasgow.

I am spoiled for choice with Blipping tonight, and opted for the shot of the Parliament looking good in the morning sun.* You can just make out the Cease Fire Now encampment on the left in the background.

One Extra is the Tollbooth, also looking lovely as I walked down the Royal Mile this morning. Another is our view from inside the Halfway House - we enjoyed watching the endless stream of tourists hauling their luggage up the steep steps.

The last Extra is a poster in the men's toilet in The Waverley - Scottish comedy icon Billy Connelly starred there in 1978 (before he was a star or an icon). They play recordings of his comedy acts in the toilet.

And yes, the Gerry Rafferty on the poster is "that" Gerry Rafferty .

Another icon.

* We got another deluge in the afternoon.
