The early morning sunshine (it did not last) was lighting up the roof of the W hotel as I dropped our son off for his train (and bus) to Manchester airport. Despite a few years of familiarisation I still cannot reconcile myself to this as part of Edinburgh’s skyline. But people may have said the same thing about the Scott Monument at the time.

The early start allowed me to make headway with church paperwork ahead of this coming Sunday’s vote. The late morning monsoon weather curtailed any thoughts of tackling the next wave of weeds in the garden. Then a trip to the local police station to report an incident at church yesterday. Walked the dog in between showers then we went out for an excellent Chinese meal in Canonmills.

Returned home feeling full annd in good spirits but depressed ourselves with the news and catching up with The Responder. Brilliant acting but ……..
