Cabo de Sao Vincente from Fortaleza de Sagres
Sent from my iPad
The most south-westerly point in Europe and the last piece of land sailors would see before they set off on their explorations. The bell tower in the foreground is part of a Chapel within the fort and was built in 1549 on the orders of Henry the Navigator.
Views from the fort are magnificent and today the power of the wind was awesome. Tiny boats bobbed on the crest of waves and some mad fishermen had ignored signs and climbed onto the rocks to cast their lines. We felt very insignificant in the huge Universe and conscious of the forces of Nature.
