And they’re off!
And they’re off! The club runners in the Half Marathon at 8am in pouring rain round the corner from Lauriston Place into Forrest Road. They are running so quickly they are just a blur to the lens as I stand getting wetter by the second. Why do I do it? I don’t know but maybe to feel the relief that it is not I this time running down to Musselburgh in the rain - my days of training and nerves are long gone.
This morning, standing dripping in the wet I could only endure 25 minutes of spectating before turning for home and so never saw the tail end of the runners.
The full Marathon race started at 10am but by that time I was holed up in the relative warmth of Söderberg in the company of the Merry Widows, looking out at the rain still falling with intent.
It was Sod’s Law that after lunch David and Luca paid a visit to the Dower House when the rain appeared to have stopped only to find that when they were about to leave, it returned with a vengeance.
I was sorry that neither the BBC nor STV covered the Edinburgh Marathon, choosing instead to give us 2 hours of the Manchester one. Why ? Not necessarily a great way to foster North South relations.
And as I type the rain continues…….
