Spring Pasqueflower …

… has to be one of my favourite alpines. Growing on high ridges and coming out just as the snow melts but always discreetly away from the paths, just over the edge. Other names are: Pulsatilla vernalis (Latin name) arctic violet and lady of the snows. We saw many of these today as we walked up to the Cabane de la Torche which is closed of course, at this time of the year. Thank you Josiane and Lucy for a great botanical walk in the chilly wind (extras because it was so beautiful).
