Plockton

We had a lazy start to the day. We had packed the night before so could have a shower before breakfast. Another really good breakfast. Chatted to Michael , they were heading for Oban today and off on a boat trip to Mull,Iona and Staffa the next day.
Said our goodbyes, given some more cake from Alison, and we were on our way home.
We stopped at Kyleakin. Very atmospheric with low cloud and still waters.
On to Plockton where the sun was shining, beautiful. We sat on a bench over looking the marina and decided to see if there were any boat trips running. There was in 30 minutes so perfect timing.
We boarded Calum’s boat with just a few others and headed out into Loch Carron. We passed this lighthouse which I did not even know was there. It was built in 1880, 10 years after a rail link was built between Dingwall and Stromeferry. You could then catch a steamer across to the Isle of Skye. Soon after the rail link was extended to Kyle of Lochalsh so this way of getting to Skye was no longer needed.It was decommissioned between 1904/1920 and us now privately owned. During low tide it is possible to walk across to the Island.
Calum’s trips are free if you do not see any seals, as you can see we did so it was £17 each which is great value as we enjoyed our trip.
We had a wander along the front afterwards . So many beautiful houses and gardens with ‘palm trees’.
We sat outside at the Plockton Inn for lunch. I had goat cheese salad and Mike had soup both really good.
We stopped for tea and Alison’s cake on the way home :)
