The physic garden
In Castle Park - is maintained by the service users of St Mungo’s homelessness charity, with the back up of professional gardeners I imagine, as it’s absolutely exquisite - like a mini Kew. Though quite small - just a rectangle beside (and presumably once part of) St Peter’s church - which was bombed in the Bristol Blitz in November 1940 along with much of the rest of the medieval city centre, the docks and the aeroplane factory. Also 200 people died. The church lost its roof, but the walls remained, amazingly. They are periodically strengthened to keep it all safe. It’s a lovely area to explore.
I was en route to have lunch with my nephew in north Bristol - which has many more nice eating places, and interesting independent shops (primarily in Gloucester Road) than the south side where I live. Including a help yourself shop where I stocked up on seeds and dried beans - you scoop them yourself into paper bags and pay by the weight. I love this shop!
Nice to see A too - he’s busy doing his final professional qualifications. He’s had some awful ups and downs in his life, and it’s wonderful to see him in a happy relationship with a lovely man, and on the brink of financial security. All of which he’s achieved by himself.
