Horsetail in the cemetery
It rained nearly all morning - so F’s last morning was spent indoors chatting, rather than the lovely visit to the botanical gardens we had planned. Though, rather excitingly, we started to plan a possible visit for me to Stromness later in the year. It’s quite a project to get there though, so I need to study the travel options.
By the time the rain stopped (more or less), we only had time for a walk in the cemetery. Another wonderful place to see interesting and unusual plants. This is a horsetail - growing on a grave. The cemetery is pretty wild and tangled in most areas. Though the war graves are immaculate
Horsetail is interesting as it has survived pretty much unchanged since Jurassic times. They don’t have flowers, and reproduce by spores. They’ve certainly spread quite widely in the cemetery.
