Shimmer in the Haze of Summer Lawns..

When we were in Edinburgh the other day, we took a drive past one of my old flats.

6 of us lived in the flat, on the fifth floor of a tenement which overlooked Arthur's Seat. We were a messy, mixed up bunch. Two Sisters, me and Boris - who I met in First Year, and two boys who were known to G and her sister.

Don't you have an urge to visit places that you have stayed and have a look at how they are now?

We drove past, and I glanced upwards at the window ledge i was so fond of sitting on in the warmer days. Back in 1984, we had a 7-11 downstairs, a chinese on the corner (who banned us for telling him his food was "Rubbery), and it was still there.

As we drove past, I spotted the pub on the corner. The pub on the corner, every third Sunday played U2 Under a Blood Red Sky" on a big screen. I would bimble over, take my seat in the corner nearest the screen and nurse my half pint for the hour or so it was on.

We then took a drive over to the flat where Tooli will be living next semester. It's pretty much in a similar area. Take away, and a pub very close to hand. We sat and gazed round... and I as I remembered my time in the flat in town said,

"Don't go out with the Barman - he'll be far too old for you.
