Morocco - Day 2
We were taken on a tour round the outskirts of Rabat by our host who pointed out various 'things' and places that he intends to take us.
The morning was a general tour and history/geography lesson.
Culture was quite a big part of it and one of the biggest lessons was that death holds for those using the roads either as drivers or pedestrians .... "It is Allah's will if I live or die....". Lane discipline and speed limits don't exist and pedestrians have a protective force field. Vehicles travel straddling the lines like a Scalextric car and roundabouts are 'straight lined' at the fastest speed possible. Wide, perfectly maintained pavements are shunned in preference to the roads no matter how busy (including dual carriageways/motorways) ... and normally back towards the oncoming traffic (best not so see what is going to hit you?).
We stopped for a drink (tea/coffee ... no alcohol in Morocco) and a quick bite at what is obviously a popular spot for the well heeled (of which there are many) but it was not expensive. It was very close to the Atlantic - which was quite lively. We were in short sleeves and the locals were in hooded sweatshirts and jackets complaining it was cold.
Back at the house I took some shots of the optical illusion that is the pool ..... stand at a corner and that it deepest point. Move to the centre of a narrow side and that is the deepest point. Move the the middle of a long side and it is 'bowed' down from both ends.
Pictures of that, a couple of random houses, a street name plate near the royal palace (yes - it is that big), one of the feral cat which has taken up residence in the BIL's garden and a night view of the gated lane that the house is on are here.
