Apple Blossom Time
A rather poor showing of the apple blossoms this year, especially on Auntie's Tree. The late heavy snow may have something to do with that. I was hard pressed to find a decent bunch of pink flowers on Auntie's Tree. The regular apple blossoms were a bit better. All need extensive cutting back but finding someone to do that isn't easy. The hand-colored photograph of apple blossoms above is by Wallace Nutting and it always hung in my parent's bedroom. Nutting was a famous photographer who was born just a couple of miles from my childhood home in Gleasondale, MA. in 1861. His father died in the civil war. At the turn of the century there were few homes in America that didn't have a Nutting print. He was wildly popular. For a time, he was a Congregational minister in Fryeburg, Maine just two towns over from where I live now. He was instrumental in promoting the Colonial Revival architectural style in New England. Another hot day unfortunately. We may hit 90F. Ugh!
