Cicadas
Whilst we have been staying at Calaway Gardens we have been hearing the continuous noise from the emerging periodical cicadas. At the base of some of the trees you can find the discarded external skeletons of the larvae as well as adults who have already completed their task of mating and laying eggs. Apparently this year the 13 year and 17 year cycles coincide. An impressive noise!
This afternoon after our visit to the Discovery Centre we went to the Pine Mountain Safari drive through. Where we encountered many animals on the 3.5 mile drive. We bought animal feed and the goats, deer, pigs, bison, ostrich and zebra came up to the car for food. We were instructed to have the car windows either shut or fully open, after a very close encounter with some greedy zebra we soon found a technique to throw the food away from the car! Olivia had a wonderful time (and so did we). Then it was back home for the much less entertaining drive through the Atlanta traffic.
