Day 28 Camino Rabanal del Camino to Acebo del Cami
Today was a steady climb to one of the iconic stops on the French Camino, the Cruz de Ferro (iron cross). This is a cross on a cairn at the top of a mountain and the Camino custom is to bring a stone from your home country and to place it on the cairn as a symbol of something that you wish to shed or in some cases as a way to offer a memory or a dedication to something you hold dear. Once we reached this point, we soon started to descend on some pretty stony ground consisting of slate mixed with lots of loose stones. This was my first real test for my knee and I’m glad to report that the painkillers and knee brace did their job. The weather was low cloud and drizzle but fortunately no significant wind. Not the greatest of views sadly on account of the mist but some lovely heather type shrubs and an eerie atmosphere.
