Round the Links first thing, after a few light chores. Cool enough, still, though warmed up in the afternoon.
I went to the cinema - ‘Perfect Days’ - a Japanese film about a man who cleans toilets… I’d heard some rave reviews. In fact, it has won a swag of awards and nominations.
But… while it was a sweet, gentle film, with a great soundtrack, it was soooo repetitive. We had days and days of him going to work - folding his bed away, trimming his moustache, shaving his beard, cleaning his teeth, washing his face, putting on his work overalls… the first hour was exactly this routine, the only change was the music he played from his tapes - 60s and 70s classics - The Animals, Van Morrison, Lou Reed - excellent.
It was VERY interesting to see the lovely clean public toilets in Tokyo. He was fanatical about cleaning every bit of them, though I did notice he used the same cloth for everything.
There were five of us in the cinema. Two rotund white haired older ladies (probably my age) came and sat beside me, and proceeded to get out their bags of crisps and sweeties and milkshakes. And talk in loud voices. I moved away up the back, and could still hear them rustling and talking all the way through the trailers. Though there wasn’t a peep out of them during the film. I think the may have fallen asleep.
Hiyarama, our film hero, loved trees and nature and took pleasure in the little things in life. He’d’ve loved these trees!
