Behind The Mask

Being a Bank Holiday of course that meant the weather was awful - cold, damp and with heavy downpours. So after we'd done our usual weekly food shop, which had been postponed from yesterday, we decided to head into town and treat ourselves to apple pie and ice cream at our now favourite French bistro in town to cheer ourselves up.
Today's image was taken on the way back to the car as we dodged the showers. It's part of art display attached to the railings outside Maidstone Museum. It combines crocheted floral decorations - created by members of the Soul Stitch Society, a growing community bringing people together to share skills and try new technologies after a series of workshops started at Maidstone's Warm Hub - and a selection of decorated masks. It really did provide a wonderful splash of colour on such a dismal day. I couldn't quite capture the floral decorations the way I wanted so my attention was drawn to this particular mask, especially as when I crouched down the mauve coloured lights appeared in the eye sockets giving it a somewhat spooky demeanour!
We decided to go on a food based work to rule after yesterday's events - so whilst we bought the food today we did not make any meals to see what would happen. In retrospect the answer was obvious - a big fat nothing. No breakfast, lunch or dinner were made, or even offered, by the other member of our household although yet again they made themselves something to eat - apparently we're not entitled to anything unless we make it ourselves. It was just as well we had had that apple pie and ice cream!
