Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

2013 Monday — Early Morning at the Shoreline

If either of us were asked what is our favorite time of day at camp, I think we'd both say "Early mornings." I'm normally not a morning person, but at camp, mornings at the shoreline are fascinating, so we usually slip out of bed about 5:00 a.m.

Once we get down to the water's edge, the light continually changes as the sun finally comes over the eastern horizon. The sound of the water is soothing; camp is on the lee side of the island, so there are almost no waves, but there is a gentle rushing of water toward the shore and then the gurgling draining sounds as the water moves back through the rocks. We almost always see a seal and of course lots of birds. Sailboats, barges, and big cruise ships also add to the intrigue.  And most campers do not get up early, so there is just almost no one out watching the day arrive.

Today the overcast has painted a silver sky and a silver sea as well. I think it is beautiful.

Good night from Catalina Island.
