The diligent mother

I stood quietly watching this mother Canadian Goose sitting on her eggs next to the path.  She got up to rearrange the eggs and l was able to see all 8 of them.  After I had checked out the noisy adolescent herons l walked back past her on the way home and saw she was busy covering her precious eggs and then she popped in the lake for a long drink and a clean, getting out once when another goose got too close to the eggs.  I will check in a couple of days time to see whether they have hatched.
