Warblers and more

A trip to the valley today. It started out cloudy, then cleared this afternoon.

First stop was at a plant sale. The woman has an annual plant sale and will have it for most of May, with more things added each week. Rather than charging a set price for the plants, she asks for a donation to charity. She has some nice plants, so I stop in a couple of times.

Second stop was Miners Marsh for a walk. Lots of bird activity today. The tree swallows were swooping and flying over the marsh, likely about 50 in total. I did catch 2 of them sitting on one of the nesting boxes. There was a blue winged teal duck visiting the marsh this week, and I spotted him swimming around. I stopped to answer a phone call and while I was on the phone a couple of cedar waxwings landed nearby so I was able to get a couple of photos. The warblers have returned, and I was able to get a couple of decent shots of this yellow rumped warbler. Lots of red winged blackbirds, grackles, song sparrows, a couple of cardinals and some mallards were around too.

After a stop at a bakery for some treats and one of their sandwiches to bring home for supper, it was time to hit the garden centers. I picked up a few things at each of 3 garden centers. Several annuals, even though it is early. Some things sell out early plus they use them in planters, so supply can be limited on some things. I decided to get them now, and gradually harden them off.

Home around 4 pm today which was earlier than I thought it would be.

Brunch tomorrow, then a walk in the Public Gardens. I'm trying to decide where my weekend trip will take me next weekend. It's my birthday and I am thinking about going back to the valley so I can stop at the places I didn't get to today. Then in 2 weeks I have an overnight trip to Annapolis Royal.
