Bristol day 3: Forest of Dean
A leisurely start and then we went off to the Forest of Dean, yes, in search of a well - one Will had noted and insisted we went to!! It was deep in the forest and as we got closer the roads became minute and we were travelling in a large and clunky van. The final track was full of massive potholes and wet red clay but Will appeared unfazed. The forest looked incredible, the beech leaves emerging a startling green. The well was vast - in fact two wells, one for drinking and the other was total immersion. The water was the coldest I have ever felt and a wonderful milky blue. We were not tempted to leap in - the temperature outside was only 7C! We did dip our hands in - mine went purple and Will's went greeny white. The well is dedicated to St Anthony and holds a cure for sores!
We lunched on sourdough, brie and grapes, sitting on a log, listening to jays and wondering at it all. A picturesque drive home, a quick freshen up and we dined in Thali, a really delicious Indian restaurant - the food presented in small bowls of interesting things ie dhal , chickpea curry, spicy accompaniments - delicious.
